THE RIVER JORDAN. The Jordan River flows from
the snow-capped heights of Mount Hermon to the depths of the
Dead Sea. This is a picture of the headwaters, with Mount
Hermon in the background. The river twist and curves in a 160
miles long course, while the distance only covers 65 miles in a
straight line. THE JORDAN AL URDUN (the DESCENDER)
deserves its name as it descends from 3000 feet at Mount
Hermon, where it is formed to the Dead Sea, 1300 feet below
sea level. Its average width is 100 feet.
