Mount Carmel is 16 miles long and 4-5 miles wide and 1800 feet high. Its name is derived from Karem El, which means the vineyards of God. In ancient times it was covered by vineyards and was at all times famous for its fertilty.
It remains green throughout the year and is the most charming mountain in Israel. It was a symbol of of beauty and grace for the prophets and its heights have served for different gods since ancient times.

Directions: North of Caesarea. The top picture is of Mt Carmel from the Valley of Jezreel. The second picture is of the Muhraqah the Carmelite Monastery on the slopes of Mt Carmel.
