"Monument to Discoveries" Padrão dos Descobrimentos - Monument to the Discoveries Tip by arigato

This monument was erected in 1960 to commemorate the centuries of exploration since the death of Henry the Navigator. The area before the monument is a giant map of the world showing the routes the Portugese sailed. Unfortunately, there was no way to get a good picture.

You can take a short elevator ride to the top where there is an observation deck. There is a charge for this but it is free if you have the Lisboa card. Even though you are not very high up, the view is amazing.

Address: Av. Brasília, 1400-038 Lisboa
Directions: The monument is a five minute walk from the train station, about a quarter of a mile before the Tower of Belem.
