Amelia Island Things to Do: 38 reviews and 75 photos

Mauvine's Trailer - This is an icon on American Beach. Mauvine is a descendant of a slave who worked on Kinsley Plantation. She is somewhat of a recluse, sporting long locks which she carries around in a basket. It is said that she is often seen sitting outside her abode, ready to pass on a story of times long passed. I journeyed here three times during my stay hoping to catch a glimpse of this interesting icon of Amelia Island and perhaps have the good fortune of sitting at her feet for a tale or two, but my efforts were fruitless. Maybe next time. It is reported that at one time Mauvine was a millionaire, having inherited a sum from her land-owning father. But Mauvine, free spirit that she is, was more concerned with saving the whales and anything else in jeopardy, and thus sacrificed her fortune only to be cared for by the locals. You go Girl!!!
