Arch of the Sergeius Family, Pula: 20 reviews and 42 photos

Of twelve Roman city gates three have been preserved. The most attractive must have been the so-called "porta aurea" - Golden gate - which had an exceptionally beautiful triumphant arch attached to its inner side. It is a masterpiece of Roman architecture at the turn of the Christian era. The building of exceptionally harmonious proportions and brillant execution was erected by a patrician woman of Pula Salvia Postuma of the Sergeius family with her own money, as was stressed by the inscription, in honour of three members of her family and who held high military or administrative duties in the Roman state.
