Favorite thing: The Grand Canyon. There are a lot of other interesting places in the State, as well. Lots of great monuments - Canyon de Chelly, Montezuma's Castle, Oak Creek Canyon dwellings by Flagstaff, Chiracuahua in the south, Tonto, Wukaipi, ... you get the picture. Phoenix is a big sprawling version of a desert-style LA. Tucson sprawls too, but the university and the surrounding mountains give it a little more style. The Grand Canyon, though, is filled on the rim with tourists waiting to snap their pictures, and you do need to join the throngs at some point. But then explore it on foot or afloat to really get to know it.

Fondest memory: Watching the first bats come out at night when camping out along the Colorado.

Or maybe it was watching the Oregon State Beavers finally beat the University of Arizona Wildcats at Arizona Stadium - hasn't happened very often!!
