Cottonwood Lodge: "Great Price ? Fly Out Fishing Lodge" Alaska Hotel Tip by onebadcat

One of the newer log cabins at Cottonwood

This is a fantastic Alaskan experience! I have visited Cottonwood Lodge three times in past years. Would recommend this for anyone who loves to fish or wants something a litle different in their vacation. The adventure starts with scenic floatplane flight form Anchorage to the 'bush'. Also a great place for someone who likes a bit of independence with mixed with their pampering.

Rooms vary from rustic to brand new log cabins (shown). Food is great and plentiful with three hot meals served per day and home-baked snacks available throughout the afternoon and evening. Not gourmet-just really good home style cooking. Cabins house between two and eight and each come with aluminum boats and outboard motors. You will need to arrange a float plane drop off at the lodge from Lake Hood which is not included in the cost.

Unique Qualities: The fishing is outstanding on both Lake Creek and the Yentna River. Fishing for all five species of salmon: Kings, Sockeye, Chums, Pinks, Silvers - also Rainbow Trout and Grayling with some Pike accessible. The lodge will usually provide a guide for your first outing to get you up to speed on the geography of the river and it's fishing holes. You are then turned loose to set your own schedule. Great place for an experienced fisherman who doesn't need a lot of hand holding. Lodge will provide gear but if you have your own bring it along. Buy tackle in Anchorage before flying to the lodge as their shop is very limited.
