"Take the time to learn to say..." South Korea Local Custom Tip by Bodhran

South Korea Local Customs: 218 reviews and 162 photos

Take the time to learn to say hello and goodbye and thank you in Korean. Be respectful and you will receive respect and help. If you give a gift, do not wait for them to open it in front of you; they won't. Small gifts are appreciated and don't be surprised if they hurriedly get someone to run and find something for you! They don't smile alot in public but one to one you will experience 'Southern Hospitality'. they are very perceptive, have an earthy sense of humor, and may laugh at you if you do something wrong....but then will show you how to do it right. My husband and his friend were eating something separately that needed to go together. They were aware of the young waitresses gigggling hysterically. One finally came over and gestured how to make and eat the dish and then everyone was happy. Must have a sense of humor yourself in Korea!!! Don't take yourself too seriously...they won't!!!!
