South-Estonian national and ethnic peculiarities can certainly be taken as a great value. Russian Old Believers living along the shores of Lake Peipus settled on their present living places in Estonia at the beginning of the 18th century after they started to be persecuted in Russia. Their communities live in peculiar villages where houses form a single row along the central village road, the everyday life of the people is organized so that men go fishing and women to the fields. The people here have preserved their traditions and holidays.
