Get down to the glaciers somehow. Two major ones to be seen, being Fox Glacier and Franz-Joseph Glacier. Take a helicopter ride to the 'saucepan' (the feeder of the glacier) and stand very very still for a couple of 1000 years. Walk home from the bottom at that point.
Fantastic scenery. Where else but in NZ could you look out over the Ocean from the top of a Glacier?

Directions: Both Glaciers are on the South Island, West coast.
