Place Vandôme and the colonne de la Grande-Armée
This square, designed by Jules Hardouin-Mansart, was built when Louis XIV was a king. The architecture is very elegant, full of harmony. It?s one of the most beautiful squares in my opinion. You find here extremly expensive shops, especially with exclusive jewellery. Also the first ?Ritz? is here. In the middle of the square stands the 41 m high replica of Trojan triumphal column in Rome with the statue of Napoleon (of course!). 1200 guns captured at Austerlitz were used to make the bronze plates covering whole column. These plates represent 45 major event of one of the campaigns (1805).
