"Conimbriga" Portugal Things to Do Tip by Irato

Portugal Things to Do: 760 reviews and 1,215 photos

The first settlement was here during Celtic times, but this place was developed by Romans and became an important city in the 1st century. In the 3rd century the great defense walls were built here. It wasn?t enough to feel safe and the city was abandoned in 5th century. Today we can see the remains of the city walls and ruins of the ancient Conibriga, the best preserved Roman ruins in Portugal.. There?s a small museum really worth a visit ? well?I think it?s one of the most interesting things here. You have some spare time have a walk around this place ? you find here lovely gorges and beautiful old olives trees grow on the slopes.
