"We fly with Turkish Airlines..." Turkey Transportation Tip by Amy_Softa

Turkey Transportation: 257 reviews and 239 photos

We fly with Turkish Airlines every time we visit Turkey. For anyone living close to Chicago it really is the way to go. Often it is the cheepest fair and they have a direct flight from Chicago to Istanbul, no changing planes and less chances of lost bags.

If you are arriving in Turkey through the Bulgarian boarder you are in for a wait. Busses get hung up there for hours. They make you get on and off several times. Then they get a large sum of money from the Bus company, which I am going to assume is a bribe. Then you get to the Turkish side of the boarder and get to do it all over again. We spent 10 hours at the boarder. The second time we crossed the boarder to Turkey from Bulgaria we took a cab to the boarder from a neighboring town and then walked accorss. It only took one hour! When we got through the Turkish side there were other cabs there and we got a ride to Edirne, which is very close to the boarder and has the largest mosque in Turkey. From Edirne there are busses leaving to Istanbul every half hour.
Busses go everywhere in Turkey. Often when you arrive at the station there will be people meeting you at the curb asking you where you are going and then they help you find the right company heading to that city.
