Consider this: it's 4.00 am and the Disco just has cloosed it's doors. The youth hostel is also closed: so there you're standing and you are tired, you're looking for a place for lodging. We have been in the situation and found an extremely good hostal: La Caixa. There are many Caixa's in the city and they are open 24 hours a day, so there are no problems with checkin'in. The only thing you need is of course your bank pass. When entering La Caixa, its good to use your bankpass to get registrated, so that the doors of this hostal open, and see: what a luxurious hostal: it's a room (2 by 2 meters) that has a nice carpet on the ground. It's headed and it has dimlight. The only thing is, that there are no beds: you have to sleep on the floor. But that's no problem: for you have your little matras and sleeping bag with you! And then: lying there on the ground in your 'room' at La Caixa, suddenly you might get a little bit irritated on somewhone, who's entering your room: mostly the people who do this, are people who want to get some money. Luckely tyey dont want that money from you, but they are mostly only interested in the little automate in the corner of your room: they put their bakcard in it, but will leave then immediately. That's LaCaixa hostel. Good lodging, no charges.
There are several LaCaixas in town, but we can recommend you the one near the Parc della Cuitadella, for it has a nice calm atmosphere, a soft carpet to lay on, good dimlight and the money-automate doesnt make too much noice. Breakfast is not beeing served, but at 9 am there opens a nice little bistro on the other side of the street. LaCaixa, being a public Bank, has also some negative things: you're being watched and taped by camara's while sleeping in your 'room,' but we never had problems with that, that night!
0,00 Euro (make sure that you have enough money on your credit card to enter the hostal!)

Unique Qualities: no showers, no roomservice, no beds, no diningroom, no television. But relavily safe: 24-hours camara-survey.

Comparison: least expensive
Directions: The best one is near the Parc Della Cuitadella, but there are several LaCaixa's, though ranging in qualtiy.
