This is one of the world's wierdest animals, the echidna. Only it and the platypus come under the heading 'monotreme'. They are oviparous mammals and have only one hole for the genital, urinary and digestive organs.
They are abundant if you know where to look and fascinating to watch. They have poor sight and rely on hearing and sense of smell and nothing delights them more than a banquet of ants or termites.
