"Shopping." Markets Tip by SooBrand

Markets, Hong Kong: 94 reviews and 137 photos

It's just a different world when it comes to shopping. They are very organised with specialised markets for fruit, flowers, meat, fish etc. They also have separate streets for different things - there's the Mah Jong street, the Camera street, the Maternity Wear street and so on.
Our favourites were the bird market - quite small but fascinating (if you ignore the treatment of the birds of course!). They're all in beautiful bamboo cages with pretty feeding bowls and are hand fed live crickets. Also, the fish market is quite a sight. Yes, they do the slicing up live fish thing. They've also got superb tropical fish, sea horses, crabs and so on. Unforunately the conditions they are kept in are far from ideal which can be quite distressing.
In general all the markets are vibrant and fun places to visit.

Directions: They're scattered all over the place so check out your favourite guide book to see where the ones you like are. Our favourites were both at the far end of Kowloon (Nathan Road).
