"The only airport (that you can..." Israel Transportation Tip by Sheri_Z

Israel Transportation: 138 reviews and 141 photos

The only airport (that you can use) is in Tel Aviv. So you need to plan travel from there.
You can take a sherut - like a mini-bus which is cheaper than the regular bus from town to town.
Or a taxi taken as 'sherut' meaning that the driver will take several to a common location, or drop you off one by one.

Taxis are expensive here! Not like Egypt. If you stay outside of a large town, or even in one for a while, and you can afford to rent a car (also too expensive!) do it.

Private car is probably safer than Egged because of the attacks. But Egged or Dan buses go everywhere. Not all bus stations have people who speak anything but Hebrew, so you might try to learn these phrases first.

There is a really convenient train which goes from Tel Aviv to Haifa, or Tel Aviv south to Beer Sheva. It gets very crowded before the weekend, you might not get a seat.

Oh and don't forget - there is NO public transportation from Friday night (some places Friday after 2 pm.) until Saturday night - so you are stuck unless you have a car. In some towns it's easy to find a cab, in others not.

Also you should not drive in certain areas on Saturday -- some towns and in certain areas of Jerusalem or people will throw rocks at you.
