"The must-sees are the historic..." Israel Things to Do Tip by Sheri_Z

The must-sees are the historic sites in Jerusalem, the Haram Sharif, with the Dome of the Rock and the Mosque of Omar, and the Wailing Wall on the way in, the Tower of David at the front of the Old City, and when allowed, the walk on the walls of the city.

In Tel Aviv, old Yaffa and the reconstructed fancy complex near the church at the edge of the port, this is really beautiful.

We haven't gone to the Masada, but many people recommend it in the south, and if you have camping gear this is a fantastic area - from Arad out into the desert.

Yad Vashem, the Holocaust memorial is very very depressing! But also really important -- for the history of human villainy.

You could combine this with a visit to the Israel Museum which is truly wonderful and has numerous permanent collections including the Dead Sea Scrolls and various traveling exhibits - everything from modern art, to ethnographic collections of Jewry in the world, to the archaeology of Israel/Palestine
