Originally the Pantheon was a temple built by Agrippa in 27 BC and was dedicated to all the gods. In 608 it was converted into a church dedicated to St. Mary ad martyres. The diameter of the building is equal to its overall height. The huge dome has a small round opening in the middle. Rain can come right through. Between the 5th and 6th chapels is the tomb of Raphael. It also contains the tomb of Victor Emmanuel II.
