"The Round Tower" Rundetårn Tip by Packerman

Rundetårn, Copenhagen: 56 reviews and 112 photos

Built in 1642 this tower has a long spiral ramp instead of a staircase. It is 209 meters long and 35 meters high. At the top you have a great view of the roofs and spires of Copenhagen. It was built not as a bell tower, but as a tower for astronomical observations. In 1716 the Russian empress Catherine took a horse-drawn carriage up the spiral ramp with Peter the Great in front of the horse.
