"Go to the great wall, but..." Great Wall of China - Huang Hua Cheng Tip by eklabbers

Go to the great wall, but don't go to a touristy part, as it is crowded with people trying to sell you lots of junk, and loud Chinese music. I went with a group of 5 people to the wall in Huanghua, as there was a walk described in our Lonely Planet guide. We rented two taxis for the whole day with their drivers. This was actually just as expensive as going on the official tour that was provided by our conference, but we had the whole day walking and taking up the scenery.
The wall there is overgrown with weeds, with a small path where you can walk. The view is fantastic. We eventually arrived in this small village where a woman was still doing her laundry in the river. It was like returning to the middle ages.
Huanghua is about two hours driving from Beijing. Apparently you can also take bus 961 to Huanghua. The path on the wall starts where the wall crosses the road. You can either take the path on the left, loop back through the village and the main road, or on the right, much steeper path.

Address: Huanghua, China
