"Definitely try guest-houses as..." Pretoria Hotel Tip by PaulMagnuson

Pretoria Hotels: 42 reviews and 32 photos

Definitely try guest-houses as a first choice (see http://www.pretoria.co.za/Tourism/guesthouses.asp ). They are generally far less expensive and far more personal than the 'brand name' hotels, but slightly upmarket of most B&Bs. It is hard to single any out, as most are great in their own way. My personal favourite is 'Huis & Haard' (home and hearth).
Between (South African Rand) R250 pp sharing B&B and R375 pp single B&B in the best room. Other meals are available and highly recommended.

Unique Qualities: Wim and Gerda are great hosts. I regularly leave visitors in their care, and have never been disappointed. Both are superb cooks, specialising in traditional cuisine -- she in the kitchen, he on a charcoal grill (the 'braai').

Wim has built a really wonderful house, that takes every possible advantage of the spectacular location of the place. Every bedroom enjoys pretty much the same view as our State President from his Pretoria residence.

Price Comparison: about average
Directions: 10 Glyn Street, Colbyn. It is on the Colbyn ridge, about 2 km due north of the centre of Hatfield.

It is in the diplomatic centre of Pretoria, within easy reach of the best (safe and interesting) nig
