"There is a wonderful program..." Brazil Transportation Tip by kathyceo

There is a wonderful program for touring which must be purchased prior to arrival. You can buy a plane ticket from city to city for about $100.00 US per leg. You must decide the dates and locations prior to arrival, and purchase a four or five leg pass--we arrived in San Paulo and flew from San Paulo to Curitiba and drove to Florianopolis. Then we flew from Florianopolis to Forteleza, From Forteleza to Natal, Natal to Recife, we drove from Recife to Maceio, and flew from Maceio to Salvadore, and finally flew from Salvadore to Rio. Each flight averaged out to be about $100US. Considering the distances, a very good deal. We rented a car at each destination, but probably didn't need to. We tend to be quite independent though, and since my husband is Portuguese, the language was no barrier. Don't rent a car in Rio. There is no place to park, transportation is good, and the city can be confusing to navigate. We hired a cab for a full day to tour outside of the city proper, do the rain forest (such as it is) the favellas, and other areas south of the city, for a total of about ten hours, and it cost $80US. (He even took us to a restaurant for lunch which was excellent, and he waited while we ate, then he took us shopping, and again waited for us to leave)!
