"Deir St. Simeon: The ruined..." Egypt Off The Beaten Path Tip by MProcher

Egypt Off The Beaten Path: 250 reviews and 315 photos

Deir St. Simeon: The ruined monastery of St. Simeon is located on the western bank of the Nile at Aswan.
Everybody will visit the mausoleum of Aga Khan but only a very few decide to go to the monastery. By feet may 20-25 minutes, by camel the half. If you didn't ever ride a camel this is a good opportunity for. Of course, the guys with the camels will try to make a lot of money with you. Nevertheless a good price is from 15 to 30 Egyptian Pounds ($ about 3 to 7) - but very important: one person on one camel!!! It's normal to pay per camel, not per person.

Never - never pay for a service (doesn't matter which one it is) before you use it!

You pay at the end - when it's over!!!!!!!

Otherwise the guys and their camels will be gone when you come out of the monastery. And this is nothing bad in an Arab country: If anyone is stupis enough ...

pic shows: a view into the destroyed church of the monastery. Far behind it you can see Aswan
