"I've heard good things about..." Dominican Republic Transportation Tip by jonathanc

Dominican Republic Transportation: 101 reviews and 69 photos

I've heard good things about the new ferry service from Mayaguez, PR. It's an overnight trip and you have to sit up in an airline-type seat (or pay for an expensive berth) but the boat is new and the nightclub very lively. Once there, don't forget that CaribeTours runs large, comfortable and cheap bus trips around the island, to places like Las Terrenas and Santiago, and the local buses to Boca Chica, which cost about a dollar each way have A/C and Merengue/Bachata on the radio. 'Publicos', the shared cars that run down major avenidas pack in 5 or 6 or more passengers for three pesos each (less than a quarter); just flag them down and push your way in. The Dominican people are so friendly that being jammed in doesn't disturb their chatting and joking.
