The typical greeting in thai is pronounced sa-wa-dee-kha meaning hello by a female. When said by a male the word is pronounced sa-wa-dee-krap. Your hands should be pressed together (as if one is praying)and in very close proximity to the face with the thumbs under the chin. Also, a slight bow of the head shows respect.
