Petergate Fisheries: "Fish & chips" Petergate Fisheries - CLOSED Tip by Sjalen
Petergate Fisheries - CLOSED, York: 3 reviews and 1 photos
The best 'chippie' in the city centre if you still feel it is morally justified to eat fish (none left in British seas soon). Yorkshire is one of the places where fish and chips is said to have been invented, even if probably not true, so a lot of people still eat it and this is as good as any place to try it if you have no time for the freshest versions in coastal towns. This one used to have a bad reputation in the 80s but has really got their act together since then and I love their haddock and chips. Sit in or take away. If you sit in you will often find yourself lunching along with OAP's (pensioners) on a shopping break - fish and chips is sadly a bit of a generation thing too these days.
NOTE THAT PETERGATE FISHERIES SUFFERED A FIRE IN 2009 AND DURING OUR VISIT IN MARCH 2010 IT WAS BEING REFURBISHED so I hope they will soon open again and in the same style.
