"Pere-Lachaise Cemetary" Pere Lachaise Cemetery - Cimetière du Père Lachaise Tip by Sjalen

I belong to those of us who enjoy walking around old cemetaries where the trees have grown to forests and where you can find huge classical ornaments to whole families. Especially interesting if there are famous persons buried there of course and Pere-Lachaise has it all. A huge place where you need a map to orient yourself (get one at the entrance kiosks) and when you get the hang of that you find your favourites. You need no map to Jim Morrison's grave as people swarm to it - in fact so much so that there is a police officer on patrol there. On his gravestone when we visited, you could find a lab glass with some pink liquid and some fags that Jim might need on the other side! Apart from him, you can look for Piaf, Chopin, Yves Montand , Gertrude Stein, Sara Bernhard and Oscar Wilde. The latter is the one in my picture. As you can see, the base of his grave is full of lipstick marks and everywhere there are messages to Oscar on old metro tickets. Great place!
