The Black Forest and surroundings (Schwarzwald) is the mix of everything that makes me like the region of Baden. First of all you have the forest with its mountains. Go up any and enjoy the view, often across to the Vosges mountains in France. The forest is also full of lovely villages where you can either take photographs, walk, ski, skate or just eat lovely food. That is unless you want to do it all! When you come down from the mountains you have the lovely university town of Freiburg and the spa town of Baden to visit and as if that is not enough, the region is sunnier than anywhere else in Germany so it has plenty of good wines on the lower slopes on the Rhine plain. Should you feel bored with Germany, it is also easy to hop across to both France (Alsace) and Switzerland (Basel) in no time. Great region!

Address: In the south west corner of Germany.
