If you visit Athens in summer expect to be exposed in very high temperatures.Athens used to have one the best climates in the world as it was dry and pleasant. The temperatures weren?t so high. The endless concrete, lack of much green and the fires that burned much of the forests in the neighboring mountains of Athens, are the factors that made Athenian summers tending to be unbearable.Yet,there isn?t so much smog as in former decades and the phenomenon of ?nefos?(a blanket of smog) is not visible since most athenian cars now use unleaded fuels, many industries have moved far from Athens and strong mesures(in traffic) are imposed when the atmospheric pollution reaches high levels. I would recommend you to visit the Acropolis in the morning. You?ll avoid the crowds and the heat, that is searing on the barren rock.Yet,if you choose to go another time have a bottle of water, sunglasses, hat and a sun lotion! And prefer t-shirts with light colors! Also prefer a lodging with air-contitioning! Now,once you visit Athens in winter you?ll surprised to see that it?s mostly sunny!Often the temperature climbs to 20 C but an umbrella is always necessary.Equally often it can be really cold in Athens as well, with very strong winds,so you should bring the appropriate cloting.Snow is very rare in Athens. It snows once in a decade. The last time it snowed, was in January 5th 2002 and the city was paralyzed! The best time to visit Athens is spring, ofcourse. The temparure and weather is perfect(if it rains it?s just for a while),the flowers at the archaeological sites have blossomed and still there aren?t too many tourists. The picture depicts the Zappion mansion a beautiful public building named after the great donnator. The picture was taken in January 5th,and it is a...historic document!
