Favorite thing: During the Middle Ages, Spain was a mosaique of small Kingdoms that were constantly fighting each other. the main struggle was the Reconquista, that is the crusade of the Christian Kings in order to release the southern part of the peninsula from the Muslim oppression. But the different Christian kingdoms were also rivals among them.

What is left today of those times is a large number of castles that dot the whole Spanish territory. Most of them are in a state of ruin, but they often crown the most prominent part of eacth town or city with a magnificence that no modern construction can rival.
