scenic downtown Moss Landing: "Deep-fried Artichoke Hearts" Monterey Restaurant Tip by CCW

Monterey Restaurants: 207 reviews and 387 photos

A lot of tourists heading up Highway 1 stop at the Giant Artichoke in Castroville for deep-fried artichoke hearts. While it's not bad, I've had better versions of the same thing at a couple of small lunch spots (the names of which I don't remember) in Moss Landing, a tiny hamlet a few miles to the north.

Favorite Dish: Deep-fried artichoke hearts, of course, but they also have good sandwiches and other lunch items.

Price Comparison: about average
Directions: Turn off Hwy 1 towards the ocean and go down the main drag of Moss Landing. The better cafe is on the west side of the road; the one across the way is more fast-food-oriented.
Price: US$11-20
Rating: 4
Theme: Local
