Vatican City: huge tourist trap but worth it. Get in queue early, bring a book and water.
Venice: No place like it in the world. Do not go in summer when it smells and there are way too many people. Go in fall, early spring or even winter. Much more enjoyable then. If going in winter, don't miss Carnavale. Unbelievable.
