"HIKING THE EASY MOUNTAINS" Romania Things to Do Tip by Romanian_Bat
Romania Things to Do: 411 reviews and 851 photos
Romania is the home of a number of not very high, easily accessible mountain ranges, with a hilly-like look. You can enjoy in these areas the endless pine and fir-tree forests, the long trails that allow very pleasant hikes and walks. The lack of some major difficulties, as well as the lack of rocky or steep slopes has resulted in a wide range of tourists that can easily visit such mountains.
The basic features of tourism in such areas are:
-The lack of difficulty while doing some hiking trips
-A persistent shepherds’ presence on the upper pastures, where usually can be found many traditional seasonal buildings, like stables, sheepfolds a.o. which provide the places with a picturesque scenery
-Infinite camping possibilities, as in most Romanian mountains camping is free
-Many tourist paths and trails easily accessible
-Infinite skiing possibilities (especially cross-country skiing and ski-touring) on the round, hilly-like ridges and down in the wide valleys
-Slope skiing possible in the areas where the needed facilities exist
-Low altitudes (1200-2000 m.alt. in the highest places)
-Generally the lack of appropriate accommodation units (few huts and hotels) that result sometimes in the need for camping gear
-The lack of informative materials on these areas (maps, guide books, leaflets, brochures), fact that has resulted in a very low tourist activity and therefore in a bunch of untamed areas
Directions: Among the mountain areas that fit these features, we can list the following ranges: Poiana Rusca, Semenic, Cernei, Sureanu, Cindrel, Capatanii, Leaota, Postavaru, Baiului, Piatra Mare, Grohotis, Pente
