The climb up to Narikala fortress is definately worth it for the views over the red roofs of the city. Finding the way up is difficult, though, as there is no obvious path. You need to take a small alleyway from behind a building which looks very much like an Iranian-style mosque (but locals assure me it is not), and climb through what seems to be private backyards. Just keep going upwards, and eventually you'll come to the entrance and ticket office. Inside the fortress, again there are no obvious paths...the only thing to do is to clamber over walls. A church once stood here, but it was destroyed a long time ago, and has now been rebuilt, but on a much larger scale...from below it looks a bit out of place! Inside the church however, are some beautiful and very colourful frescoes covering the entire wallspace, as well as the obligatory candle stall and toothless old crone begging in the doorway. How on earth she managed to beg for enough money to live off, I do not know, as hardly anyone goes to this church...when I went it was deserted.
