A typicals street in Baku's old town
by maykal

The old town of Baki is remarkably well preserved...partly because many of the grander houses have been done up and now serve as headquarters of the many foreign oil companies currently operating in Azerbaijan. It is a fairly small old city, but a picturesque one...the best thing to do is to get lost in the maze of streets...you won't be lost for long, though, as eventually you will find yourself at one of the city gates.
Baki has yet to be overrun by tourists, so the only carpet salesmen are to be found around the Maiden's Tower, and they haven't yet learned to be as pushy as carpet salesmen elsewhere in the Middle East.
