Old town and Pontic tombs, Amasya
by maykal

Amasya was not on my original route plan, as it involved a considerable detour inland. but after having seen Samsun from the bus, we decided to head straight for this beautiful city, after having been inspired by a photo in a Turkish guidebook. It was a very good decision, and Amasya remains one of the highlights of my time in Turkey. It was hot, but more bearable than the humid coast, where my clothes acted like a sponge after five minutes of walking! Amasya is a peaceful city, and one with many attractions, such as the ruined castle on a hilltop overlooking the town, some Pontic tombs (lit up by some alarmingly red spotlights at night!), and a row of old houses overhanging the muddy river.
