Maurya, Tandoori Hut, Moti Mahal: "3 Indian restaurants" Personal Experiences Tip by csistok

Personal Experiences, Calgary: 8 reviews and 3 photos

Maurya is our favourite of three East Indian restaurants we have tried (there are at least half a dozen in Calgary). Tandoori Hut is similar as far as the food goes, but the atmosphere at Maurya is just a bit more 'authentic'. At Moti Mahal, you'll find beautiful Indian fabrics and furnishings, lovely ebony-haired waitresses, and mouth-watering menu items. What we don't like about it is that they skimp out on the portions but charge the same as the other two places.
All three of these places are very popular on weekends, so if you haven't made a reservation, you may have to wait a while for a table to free up.

Favorite Dish: Nan bread, of course! Most places serve them hot and fresh out of the oven. Samosas are a popular appetizer, but if you haven't yet tried it, go for the Papri Chat. It's like nachos, with a twist. I love them. As for the main course, my husband and I usually choose one veggie dish and one meat dish which we then share. At Maurya, this usually fills us up and there's absolutely no room for dessert.

Price Comparison: more expensive than average
Directions: Maurya (1204 Kensington Road NW) and Tandoori Hut (201 - 10 Street NW) are both located in the area known as Kensington. Moti Mahal is at 1805 - 14 Street SW.
