Groningen Off The Beaten Path: 29 reviews and 30 photos

Appingedam, De Hangende Keukens (the Hanging Kitchens).
Appingedam is a unique town with its 'Hanging Kitchens' The houses with their fronts right on the street offered little in terms of expansion. A little creativity gave the owners a unique solution to the problem. The result is what you see on this picture. One can almost picture many years ago, the first guy building one of these puzzling construction projects. His neighbours wondering what he is up to but then amazed at the ingenious result. Well if he can, I can. Before you knew it a few more of these hanging rooms appeared. Appingedam is a beautifull town nestled just off the main road between Groningen and Delfzijl. Not far from Garrelsweer which is so well described by my cousin Jacob on his page.
