"Begijnhof" Beguinage - Begijnhof Tip by adinda

Beguinage - Begijnhof, Brugge: 61 reviews and 105 photos

Small, old houses, where only women lived. They were religious women who did good deeds in the city. The difference with nuns is that nuns had to give up everything (money and such) to the church, while the "begijntjes" could manage their own finances. Mostly they worked as nurses, teachers or they helped families cope during difficult times.
