Ellis island is the island most people immigrating into USA from 1895 - 1929 had as their first stop after the long journey over the atlantic ocean.
Most people stayed here for only 2 days untill their US citizenship was grated, but a few had to return to their contry of origin if they failed the medical tests etc.

Directions: 10 minuttes ferry ride from downtown manhatten, use the same ferry as for the statue of liberty
