The Maarten Toonder monument.

This monument, 7 meters high, is inaugurated by the Rotterdam mayor Opstelten on 12th of July and is dedicated to the 90th years old Martin Toonder.
It has a bench to sit on and is illustrated with 4 well known characters out of Martin Toonder's comic strips:

Markies De Cantecler, mayor Dickerdack, professor Stickbock en de artist Terpen Tijn.

The statue was created by the artistic group 'de Artoonisten'

In the Centrum voor Beeldende Kunst (Centre of visual art) at Nieuwe Binnenweg you could find, up to 12th of August 2002, the drafts of this design and additional to these you can visit the exhibition about unpubliced work of Toonder

If you want to make an appointment with some one at Rotterdam, this could be one of the locations to join eachother. You can sit on the bench of the monument, but be careful if you stand up! You might hit your head! Ask ATLC, we almost lost her there '-)

Address: At Blaak station.
