Interesting Stones at Chicago Tribune Building
This building was completed in 1925 and is inset with stones from all over the world. I had lived in Chicago since my birth and visited this building countless times and never noticed the stones until someone pointed them out to me last year. Each stone has a plaque and there are diverse and interesting places represented as well ad historical places. The building was constructed in the gothic revival style and was a result of an architect contest, won by John Mead Howells and Raymond M. Hood in 1922. It is at the beginning of Chicago's magnificent mile on Michigan Ave. I recommend starting in the southeast corner and making your way round the building. During the Christmas season, I recommend visiting very late a night: there are always spectacular light displays.
