"The Parthenon." Acropolis - Parthenon Tip by 10eke

Acropolis - Parthenon, Athens: 82 reviews and 156 photos

The Parthenon is the main building on the Acropolis. Tt was completed in 438 BC after about ten years of construction. Restaurations are still in progress, which means that large portions are surrounded by scaffolding. Spoiling the view for now, but making it even grander in the future. Look where you step, as you gaze upwards it is easy to trip on the ancient uneven surface of the Acropolis. The view of the Parthenon is challenged by the view of the immensity of Athens spreading out around and below you. Of course if you want to have seen the entire Parthenon you will have to go to the British Museum in London. An endless discussion between Greece and Great Britain about the return of the Elgin Marbles has not yet produced any result. However, a Greek friend told me that the Greeks had no funding to restore the marbles, and he considered it very nice of the Brits to do this before returning them. Do visit the museum, it is really worthwile to get a glimps up close of all these works of art.
