"The Black Church" Brasov Things to Do Tip by codrutz

Brasov Things to Do: 322 reviews and 737 photos

The Black Church in Brasov is named like that because of the fire put by the invading Habsburg forces in 1869, when the church was largely destroyed. After the reparations of the 18th century a large part of the interior was modified from the original design. The church is originally a Roman-Catholic church, works started in late 14th century, completed in the 15th century and modified in the 16th century to a Gothic style cathedral. From Roman-Catholic the church also became, and still is, Lutheran, which is the Protestant Christianity of the German community in Romania.
