Nara is a very beautiful, traditional town and apart from Kyoto is the center of Buddhist Japan. Many Japanese schoolkids have excursions to the temples here in their 3rd year of Junior High School. Some of my friends were lucky enough to accompany them on their trip!

The main temple in Nara is Todaiji which houses the biggest bronze Buddah in Japan. There are peaceful trails in the forests behind the main temples which lead to more remote temples. Nara is also home to many deer that roam all over the city. Beware, they eat anything!!

Nara is located in the Kansai Region in Nara Prefecture. It is close to Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe and Himeji. The Shinkansen doesn't run directly to Nara so it is necessary to change to a Limited Express train from these cities.

Please see my Nara page for more details on this historical city!
