"Probably of Carolingian..." Zürich churches Tip by Volare

Zürich churches, Zürich: 7 reviews and 6 photos

Favorite thing: Probably of Carolingian origin, the Grossmünster with its distinctive twin spires is the symbol of the city. The oldest parts (the crypts) date from the late 11th and early 12th centuries. The remains of the roman transverse, with a 12th century sculpture, are especially worth seeing.

Fondest memory: A funny story on this church is that its two towers were build by two different very reach Swiss families of that time. They wanted to show to everybody the boundaries of its wealth. In order to do so one family built its tower higher than the other.
