"Watch a salmon run. There are..." Alaska Things to Do Tip by worldtrekker

Alaska Things to Do: 496 reviews and 834 photos

Watch a salmon run. There are 6 types of salmon that run up Alaskan rivers during mid to late summer to spawn. Obviously, this is a great event for anglers, but also for bears, bald eagles, and other predators. This photo of a red salmon in the Gulkana River was taken from a designated viewing area just off the Richardson Highway. Fishing is prohibited in this particular spot.
Make sure you try the salmon when you are in Alaska. It's the best I've ever eaten! On their respective pages, I have recommended restaurants in Anchorage and Fairbanks that have excellent salmon dinners!
