As early as August, if conditions are right, watch the amazing Northern Lights (aurora borealis). The best time is in winter! I was able to witness this twice, once in Denali on August 27th, and then at Chena Hot Springs Resort the next night. My photos didn't come out, as I didn't know how to do the whole exposure thing. This photo was taken by Tom Soucek in mid-March 1989. In case you want to know, he photographed this at a 3 minute, unfiltered exposure. To see a display of red Northern Lights is rare.
