"Milano offers events of every..." Sports Tip by MVMT

Sports, Milan: 5 reviews and 4 photos

Milano offers events of every kind and at every time of the year. The cultural, sporting, art and exhibition worlds are all covered by major events. With concert, theatre and opera seasons, international exhibitions, sporting events, tournaments and trade shows (of which more than 100 are staged each year) that attract business people from all over the world, there is still room left for popular festivals. So, right next door to an exhibition of futuristic technologies at the Milano Trade Fair Centre, on the third Sunday in June animals are brought to the Navigli area to be blessed as a part of the festival of St Christopher.
Celebrations for the city’s patron saint, St Ambrose, are held from early December through to the 8th of the month with markets set up around the basilica dedicated to him. Christmas and the Epiphany are celebrated each year with the procession of the Three Wise Men and groups in traditional dress through the city. People, and particularly children, flock to Piazza Duomo for the Ambrosian carnival (which extends to the Sunday after Ash Wednesday). In June, the canals come to life with markets, festivals, cookery competitions, painting exhibitions, and music. Finally, tens of thousands of runners come to Milano in April for the ‘Stramilano’, a non-competitive foot-race that everyone can take part in.
